This web site is dedicated to study of the Hanseatic League, a confederation of German merchant cities during the Middle Ages. The objective of the site is to facilitate and foster scholarship on the Hanseatic League in the English language. Key mechanisms supporting this goal are (1) provision of general reference material related to the Hanseatic League, such as the extensive chronology, as well as reference lists and maps; (2) direct access to primary source material in English including, eventually, translations of previously untranslated material; and (3) publication on the web site of research papers submitted by readers.
